The French manufacturer of electro-solar catamarans is pursuing its international development strategy by announcing a partnership with the Hungarian company Sea Hun. Millikan Boats intends to strengthen its presence in Central Europe and capture the growing demand for cleaner, quieter, autonomous sailing.

A new stage in solar power made in France
Based in Caen, Normandy, Millikan Boats is taking a new step in its European expansion. On 20 January 2026, the company formalised its presence in Hungary through a strategic partnership with Sea Hun, appointed official distributor for this market. The announcement is part of a wider drive to export French low-carbon marine solutions.
For Millikan Boats, this move is clearly aimed at Central Europe, an area where inland waterways, lakes and protected natural areas provide fertile ground for alternative engines. The brand’s electro-solar catamarans, with zero emissions and no noise pollution, are a direct response to these increasingly stringent environmental and regulatory constraints.
Millikan Boats, zero emissions and continental ambitions
Founded in 2022, Millikan Boats has rapidly positioned itself in a segment that is still emerging: that of electro-solar catamarans. Its models combine electric propulsion, integrated photovoltaic panels and optimised energy management, enabling virtually autonomous sailing without fossil fuels or direct emissions. The catamarans in the range, notably the M.9 and M.10, are designed for a variety of uses, from leisure to professional applications in sensitive areas such as nature reserves or protected tourist sites. The company is proud of the fact that its assembly is carried out in France, with the support of subcontractors in Normandy, while continuing the gradual industrialisation of its models.
While Millikan Boats’ head office remains in Caen, the brand is already offering trials in real conditions in Toulon and Cannes, a sign of its desire to reach out to an international and professional clientele. This presence on the Mediterranean coast logically completes a strategy of expansion towards the interior of the European continent. The move to Hungary is part of a wider trajectory, in which the energy transition in the boating industry is becoming a lever for growth. At a time when environmental regulations are being tightened and consumer habits are changing, electro-solar solutions are emerging as a credible response, both ecologically and economically in the long term.

A young… but strategic partnership
At this stage, no official French-Hungarian institutional or consular communication mentions this agreement, which is not unusual for a recent partnership. The information available comes mainly from Millikan Boats, BoatIndustry.fr and the company’s professional communications. Nevertheless, this tie-up with Sea Hun clearly positions Millikan Boats as an ambitious player in Europe’s nautical energy transition. By relying on an experienced local distributor, the French manufacturer is giving itself the means to accelerate the adoption of its zero-emission catamarans in a market that is still in the process of being structured, but which is set to grow rapidly as a result of climate and regulatory issues.
